The only way to enjoy a moment is by learning to live in it, and if one never does they might never get it back. Moments become memories sooner then we might expect them to. Within a blink of an eye, you could experience something that could change your whole life around without realizing until that moment is gone. By that time, that moment will only be a memory wishing to have again. I know you have heard many times before to learn to enjoy the moment, but truly it is the best gift you can give to yourself.
Pause to enjoy the moment life brings to you. Sharing laughs with friends, a day where someone might have done something special for you. Maybe it was something simple like a coffee date with a meaningful conversation that created a bond between a friend or simply a hug that lasted longer than expected. Life always has a way to show you the value in the little things, if you're willing to pay attention to them. If we don’t take the time to pause and make the little things valuable, we will not only miss out on them but the memories might fade away. It is how one can miss out on life.
Some of the ways I practice living in the moment are by centering myself and being aware of my surroundings. Pausing and listening without letting my ego give judgment. After all, if we spend our days running to the next destination, what will happen to the one that we're at right now? Oprah once said, “Living in the moment means letting go of the past and not waiting for the future. It means living your life consciously, aware that each moment you breath is a gift.”
As for someone who plans her months, years and does monthly recaps on things I am still able to live in the moment. It takes practice, but it also keeps my mind in the right direction. I give myself the time to reflect back on things that need it, and also to plan for the future when needed. However that is simply the outline of my life, the colors in between are for living in the moment.
1. Give yourself the pause
Don’t always react, pause and take a moment. That moment can become something that you will once wish you could get back. There is nothing more important at this moment, then to enjoy the one your in.
Know the balance between reflecting on the past to help it build you, and looking forward to planning for the future. The balance of it all will be in the middle which is the present moment that helps you create yourself.
3. Value your time
Your time is limited and also extremely valuable. Give yourself the gift of creating memories that will shape who you are.
