How To Plan The Year For Success

Updated: Jan 21, 2019

Planning means you are putting your dreams into actions. It could also mean that you're trying to organize the chaos just in case life wants to throw a couple of surprises at you. The begging of each year, I sit down and plan my year. Not in details, just everything that needs to be in my reminders.

I first add into google calendar and share events with some people. Then I add everything into my personal planner to go into details. Then when each month approached I use my Monthly Calendar board to keep everyone in the house up to date on events coming up. Everyone on the same page and no one forgets another event.

This is how I do it:

The tools:

Google Calendar (because you are able to share it with others)

Personal Planner (that you can take with you anywhere)

Monthly Calendar Board (I use a dry eraser one in my kitchen where we all see it)

Step 1: Add major events in google calendar

Special Events

Local Events (ex: adventure walks, summer movie nights at the park)

Plan vacations

Step 2: Appointments

Call ahead and make appointments for the year

Dentist, Doctor, etc.

Step 3: Extras

Monthly overview in personal life (yes, I schedule this in otherwise it might never get done)

Monthly overview in business

Weekend getaways

Social get-togethers (pool party, bbq, game nights, etc.)

As each month or season approached, I also take into considerations to add events that come up last minute. Play dates that are usually planned on the weekly all have to wait until the week before the event. I know that most things can’t be planned in life but by using this method, my life has changed. I get more done then I set my mind to. I actually read those books that have been in my mind, and keep my focus on other things that need to get done.

I would love to hear from you. Are you one to plan your year ahead or do you go with the flow?
